As I thought about human-centered design in some recent readings, I saw that it is more or less the empathy for learners that I gathered while teaching. This then branched into thoughts about ways to approach design for learning with embedded AI and considerations in that process. This course nicely presented the historical development of AI technology, the types of AI and how it has been trained, the development of human-centered AI (HCAI), frameworks relevant to design with HCAI, the challenge of AI with humans-in-the loop, and the use of value-sensitive design. I liked how this course presented the roots of technical thinking with AI, but constantly came back to a perspective centered in-between the user(s), human ethics, and the technology.
