# Micro-learning: Getting started with genAI
As the George Washington University (GWU) community adapted to a new educational landscape with genAI, I was consistently hearing from faculty and staff how they strongly wanted resources and guidance on the technology. (See [[2021-2024, SDLI Website#In-focus "L2 Generative Artificial Intelligence (genAI)"]].) I wanted to deliver on this as the point person and team in the central library responding to genAI.
Initially I brought together some faculty who I had collaborated with previously. The starting thought was for a joint seminar series. A list of topics would be created for for presentation and round table discussions. But after the 2023-2024 winter break, I suggested to my partner faculty that we use my team and resources to create a series of micro-learning videos.
This series was planned with faculty in fall 2023. Their disciplines ranged from across education, engineering, history, physics, and writing. We worked together to help address community interest, resistance, needs, pedagogy, and a whole range of genAI issues in teaching. While we were generally optimists, we each had some reservations. In our work, we noticed that many of our colleagues had never used or tried to use genAI. To that end, our goal became to create some small examples of how others may just get started using the technology.
## Series: Teaching in the AI Era
The purpose of this series was to provide the GWU community with some short videos on various topics that could help anyone get started with genAI tools. The series addresses topics related to teaching, learning, and research. To see a full list of topics, you may expand to callout box below.

## Interviews and produced videos
Conceptualizing and planning the project took place during fall 2023 between myself and a Multimedia Producer. During that time I sought to hire a student staff assistant to lead the production of these micro-learning videos in spring 2024. With the hire of a journalism student from the School of Media and Public Affairs, I gave her a lot of decision-making in the project.
I asked her to first review the plans and make suggestions for any changes. I then I asked her to propose the visual design, including audio/music tracks. Finally, I asked her to produce the template for Adobe Premiere Pro. While she was doing this, I arranged with collaborating faculty who would take on what topics, what they needed to record, and how we would do it.
All interviews portions were recorded in the studio and portions working with LLMs were recorded independently. The videos were produced during spring 2024. The student staff assistant led the full production process with me providing guidance and review.
