I created this as part of my Instructional Design practice. This material was created using [OmniGraffle](https://www.omnigroup.com/omnigraffle) diagramming software and designed for print on tabloid-sized paper. # Instructional Design Steering: Design and Development of Educational Videos (2014) This document represented my first attempt at planning multimedia more intentionally through design. At the time, my directive was to provide guidance to instructors for recording online videos. Instructors were producing videos in a small closet without any guidance and these were generally produced as voiced-over PowerPoints. I wanted to improve this, but knew it would not be immediate. I wanted my audience to think about what learners saw on-screen and how that went directly towards their perceived credibility, as well as the credibility of the organization, and of the quality of the instruction provided. This document was meant to provide systematic guidance with questions such as: 1. What kind of video do we need? 2. What and how much planning do we need to do? 3. What needs to be done to prepare for on-screen presentation? 4. What should be built-in during post-production? <div class="container"><iframe class="responsive-iframe-pdf-land" src="https://1drv.ms/b/c/13829E5D2EB238DE/IQQ5LzHgOKUMQ5I7D4Ee8nPWAd98eNMdRWL3SlLS8HH3hds" width="100%" height="450" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe></div> > [!note]- A documented evolution to MOOC video production > Developing Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) was new for myself and the IMF in 2014. From 2014 to 2018 my team and I significantly evolved our perspective and the perspective of the IMF on the design and production of *good* educational videos. > ### Guiding documents to MOOC video production > The following materials ==represent a timeline== in the evolution to our approach and thinking. > - **Design and Development of Educational Videos (2014)** > - **This document.** > - **Video Post-Production Roadmap (2015)** > - See: [[steering for video post-production]] > - Focused on the process of video production and post-production. Communicated iteration and the cost in the absence of pre-production and used to highlight a need for expertise in multimedia production. > - **Video Pre- and Post-Production Roadmap (2017-2018)** > - See: [[steering for video pre- and post- production]] > - Addressed the role of Instructional Design in multimedia production and pre-production. In a later version, incorporated a Content Delivery Designer (i.e. person with multimedia expertise) and showed how this person and the Instructional Designer worked in parallel to scale course development. Focused on high-value media production. > ### Evolution in MOOC video design and production > Other pages on this site describe the product and creative work done in parallel to this evolution and in execution of roadmaps.
