# Exploring a genAI microlearning video series
At the start of launching the [[2023, genAI Strategic roadmap]], I wanted to create a project that could get my department staff involved, utilize the creative skills of the teams, and provide an opportunity for to talk about and explore the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (genAI). After conversing with one of my colleagues, I was able to carve out time for a group of Instructional Designer to collaborate with my team of creative professionals and explore creating drafts of small microlearning videos on genAI.
The initial pilot for this project was to last for about three months, starting in late summer and ending before regular major course design projects at the start of the fall term. Videos created would be shared on a new section of the library website focused on genAI.
## Establishing a vision
I pulled the team together in July 2023 and presented an idea of what we may do. I wanted to create an environment for creativity, discussion of the technology, and real teaming on creative works. As part of this, I presented where I drew some of my inspiration on how the story could be told both visually and structurally. One example was the CNBC microlearning videos on various topics impacting the economy and companies. (These were usually between 7–15 minutes long.) In addition to this, I leveraged the Liedtka design thinking framework — see [[2021-2022, Starting Adobe Series#A design thinking framework]] — previously used to support digital fluency workshops.

The initial meeting and discussion led to agreement to pursue creating two small videos from a few ideas put on the table. More or less, the activity caused the team to thoughtfully consider what the technology could mean first for them. As expected, there was a range of emotion.
### Topic 1: "genAI as a Time Saver"
One topic that everyone agreed they wanted to explore and teach about was how genAI could be used to save time. Team members could see for themselves what this could look like but also wanted to dig into this from the perspective of the the average faculty member.

How genAI could be a time saver for faculty was something that the team needed to find the right partner for. There were many sensitivities at that time among the faculty when it came to genAI applied in their teaching, research, and daily work.
### Topic 2: "Adapting to Change"
Another topic that everyone agreed should be highlighted was how the rise of genAI marked an economic transition and called for everyone to adapt to change. For this idea, the team wanted to take a short historical journey through moments over the past few hundred years where this kind of technological jolt occurred and how people responded.

## 🎯 Results
This activity produced one pilot video for the first topic. Topic 2 was ultimately scratched because of competing business priorities and then due to a staff medical leave. But as these developed, I had a sense that this attempt at a microlearning series was not going to work. So I decided to prioritize building the [[2024, Getting started with genAI (video)]] series leveraging partnerships that I had with faculty.
