> [!summary]+ Summary
> The purpose of this presentation was to engage with faculty in public health, who were very curious about how they may approach integrating, generative Artificial Intelligence (genAI) into their pedagogy. The department leaders were open to all possibilities and had provided real lesson activities that they wanted me to modify in partnership with the technology.
# Using genAI to Re-imagine Learning Activities
**Delivery details:**
Date: February 8, 2024
Target audience: GWU MISPH faculty
Delivery format: In-person
Duration: 60 minutes
## About the presentation
This presentation was delivered upon invitation to faculty of the [Maternal Child and Health program](https://publichealth.gwu.edu/maternal-and-child-health-mph) of the [GWU Milken Institute School of Public Health (MISPH)](https://publichealth.gwu.edu/). Quite simply, this was one of the most fun times I had giving a presentation and leading a discussion with faculty. The amount of curiosity among the group and the willingness to engage with uncertainty, led to a lot of discussion and laughter.
I decided to open the presentation by being transparent about where I stood and what I hoped to communicate in the session. From there I did the following:
1. Foundation: genAI and pedagogy — examining what is possible with AI in teaching and learning
2. Relationship and communication with genAI — outline how to effectively engage with genAI; include a demonstration of working with AI to medically treat a 5-year-old patient with a respiratory illness
3. Activity: Revise and reimagine — re-creating provided lesson activities with materials from 2 MCH courses.
Of the above, we were only able to complete about half of the 3rd item. Nonetheless, the time was a great success in my mind because of the quality of conversation we had.

*Note: These slides were built with a custom slide deck that I made using Microsoft PowerPoint. Generative Artificial Intelligence (genAI) was not used to develop the message of this presentation, but was used to create some visuals. ## 🎯 Results
This presentation established a dialogue with leaders in the MCH program about the potential role of genAI in teaching and (the future of) work. Our conversation covered personalized learning with genAI, the potential ways students may use it, the limitations of genAI, and the general need to re-think instructional activities. It led to 2 more invited presentations to engage with students in their leadership program. Attendance was 25 in-person.
