> This page explains a workshop designed to address a key fear among higher education faculty and staff that genAI was removing humanity from teaching and learning. By contextualizing the technology as an educational technology, participants were introduced to 7 pedagogies that could be enhanced with genAI. (See the bottom of this page for the results of this workshop.)

Target audience: University faculty, staff, and students
Delivery format: Remote/Zoom
Duration: 60 minutes
## About the workshop
This workshop was born out of a common fear among faculty and staff at George Washington University and in various online events, that generative Artificial Intelligence (genAI) use would eliminating humanity from teaching and learning. While I see genAI as a different kind of technology in the sense that we can "partner" with it, it is still another step in a long road of instructional technology. With this context, the workshop addresses genAI as a technology that can be used to help humans further engage with one another through instruction. The background question for participants is, "*how is this engagement enabled?*" Demonstrations are provided on leveraging genAI to support different kinds of learning.
### Description
> In this workshop, we will delve into human-centric pedagogies and discover how generative Artificial Intelligence (genAI) can enhance these experiences. Seven pedagogies will be highlighted: personalized learning, student agency and choice, experiential and authentic learning, collaborative and social learning, differentiated instruction, flexible learning environments, and formative assessment and feedback. We will dig deeper into three of these and present ways genAI may be applied to elevate the learning experience This session aims to help you consider ways to leverage genAI for bolstering curiosity, relationships, and responsibility. This workshop is introductory, some experience working with genAI tools (e.g ChatGPT) is useful but is not required.
### Learning objectives
1. Identify and describe kinds of pedagogies that promote student-student and/or teacher-student engagement.
2. Plan for the use of genAI in one of a given set of human-centric pedagogies in a way that generates a meaningful experience.
3. Generate strategies for fostering collaborative and social learning environments using genAI tools, and share one idea for revising something currently done.
### Workshop goal
**The goal was for participants to grapple with genAI as the next educational technology and one that can be used to enhance human engagement through building trust and knowledge of how it can be used.** A key idea was to present solutions for approaching genAI as a learning technology and help resolve percolating fears.

## 🎯 Results
This workshop reframe the conversation of genAI as part of the story of educational technology. As targeted, participants reported better understanding how humans could remain the center of working with genAI. The workshop appeared to alleviate some concern and open some minds.
