> I describe my takeaways from Nico Hulkenberg's P3 finish at Silverstone in 2025. I loved this race, result, and couldn't get enough of seeing this guy make a huge difference for his team.
# Nico gets a PODIUM!
I really love watching and following [Formula 1](https://www.formula1.com). It's been well over 5 years now that I've been keeping up with the sport and watching races. I'm at the point where I can name all of the drivers, I can identify a handful of the Team Principles, I can explain the rules, I can understand the strategies, and I can talk about some of stories around the sport.
What allures me to the sport is the absolute teamwork that it takes to compete. The drivers are a big part, but the engineers who design, test, and build the cars are the unsung hero's behind the scenes. The amount of science and research to make a car is so fascinating. But sometimes, all of this engineering, driving, and conditions come together for something amazing.
On **July 6, 2025** the big news was Nico Hulkenberg finally getting a podium after 239 races! The conditions were insane at Silverstone. Almost constant rain, multiple crashes, and so much confusion with tyre strategy. Nico did most of the race with [intermediate tyres](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_tyre) and pushed and pushed. **Over the race, he went from P19 (second the last) to P3!** My God, amazing!

For multiple races in the season he's been making great leaps from the back of the grid. And doing it in car that is not very good relative to others in the field. His experience, tenacity, commitment, sheer grit is just amazingly #inspirational.
We all face these situations in life. I have a list of my own stories. And when you build enough of them, you learn not to take the highs for granted and just keep pushing for whatever you don't see coming up ahead. You push hard and long enough, you get these wins and it feels great. Plus you've walked away learning a lot.
